Offering ten spots for a pet portrait

These are strange times we live in.

A lot of things over here at Telltail Dog Training, especially my main services of group classes and private in-home sessions, were put on hold. I didn’t want to put anyone at risk or accidentally aid in the spread of the virus. This meant a hard hit for me, but I’ve also still been able to do some cool things, like consult for CARE for Animals and collaborate with April Leitzsch of VIP Dog Walking and Pet Sitting

I’ve been thinking about the best way to move forward and slowly start offering services again while being as safe as possible. There’s more on that coming soon, but at the moment, I’m going to focus on a rescue series that I’ve been working on. Way back in March, I’d started interviewing sources for a pet magazine that was about to launch its first issue. The theme was rescue, and I’d started talking with some interesting people doing some very valuable work.

This included: Casey Severns, the executive director, of CARE for Animals; Betsy Robb, president of Friends of the Animal Village; Lori Miller, founder and dog rescuer at Arkansas Animal Alliance; Sierra Laurent, a certified wildlife rehabilitator; and Hannah Wherry, Education Department/Wildlife Interpreter at Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge.

I’d posted Casey and Betsy’s article a couple of months ago regarding fostering, as it was pretty timely. I’m also working on a foster series for CARE and may add in an adoption series as well. Next week, I’ll be featuring my new rescue, Inky, and sharing how I housetrained her.

The magazine is delayed indefinitely, and I don’t want lose the relevancy of those interviews (you better believe Hannah and I discussed Tiger King), so I’ll be releasing those over the next few weeks.

In conjunction with this series, I want to offer a drawing fundraiser, with the first round to benefit CARE for Animals. Two years ago, my sister adopted her mastiff, Maslow, from CARE, and I’ve worked with and volunteered for them in a variety of ways over the years. I’ll be offering 10 drawings for $10 for them over this week and next week.

Before I was a dog trainer, I was (and still am) a writer and I worked for a lot of nonprofits. And before I became a writer 14 years ago, one of the first artistic skills I dabbled in was drawing. Here are some samples, featuring two of my dog training clients, Loki and Cleo.

These are just for fun and only $10, so I won’t be doing any edits to them. What you get is what you get. I’ll send you a copy digitally and when it’s safe to do so, they’ll be available at the CARE offices to grab. To reserve your spot, make a donation to CARE and send me the receipt or confirmation at my email: Info@telltaildogtraining.com or text me at 501-500-4685 by Monday, May 18. Make your donation here: https://www.paypal.com/fundraiser/charity/120000. You can select an “other” amount. I’ll then ask for a clear photo of your pet and will get the completed drawing in digital form to you within three business days.

More to come soon. I hope everyone is staying safe.
